Teaching Experience and Responsibility
My teaching responsibilities are based on the classrooms where I am assigned. I was working for Erie 2 BOCES, where I taught English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Diploma (GED). I also taught introductory computer classes level I, II, III, where I designed and created class programs for Spanish and Anglo-speaking students. In ABE / GED and computer classes, I explain to students that their environment affects their learning abilities. They must connect in classes, dedicate time to their education, and learn the English language. In ESL classes, explain to students that each teacher has their teaching style. Each teacher adapts to the classroom level and ethnicity. Each ethnic group has its adaptation to a new culture, assimilation, and acquisition of language.
In an ESL classroom, socialization is crucial for students to acquire communication skills faster; they must talk to their classmates regardless of their ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and other differences. We are not here to promote, approve, or accept in any way, form, or prejudice, but instead, we are here to promote diversity among us.
I teach the necessary computer skills to non-native speakers in basic computer classes. They are taught essential words from MS, the internet, and email. The course's basis is to familiarize the student with the computer skills necessary to find employment in the entry-level job market.
Working with middle school, high school, college education, I have established basic classroom management rules for all classes and a no-tolerance policy for cell phones, profanity, disruptive behavior, and negative attitudes. As a result, I can relate to students who interact with me and practice problems I usually handle without punishment, where students are not feeling frustrated. Typically, in universities, all the class material is previously established in the syllabus, including the class's expectations, including behavior. In schools, standards are based on a board area or top of the cardboard.
I plan and prepare teaching activities according to the syllabus, where students learn according to the students' levels of needs individually and in workgroups. To make sure of my learning process, I usually do the following:
- I slowly speak since I have an accent when speaking English because it is not my first language.
- I speak with colleagues to discuss any student interest.
- I always make it clear that it is essential to respect your classmates and your teacher.
- Identify and know how to satisfy the individual needs of the students;
- I use various teaching resources such as the LCD projector, PowerPoint, upload practice material and exercises regarding support mechanisms.
- I need to be organized and thoughtful to be able to learn from successes and mistakes.
One of my primary responsibilities is to ensure that students are enrolled in the correct course according to their needs. It is also crucial that the student is in the appropriate course according to department requirements. For the student to feel connected in the class, the following is essential:
- Promote a safe, effective, and supportive learning environment, promoting equality and diversity.
- Follow the requirements of the university and the department.
- Have professional behavior to inspire students and ensure the professional development of each one of them.
- Contribute among other teachers to improve the experience and achievement of students.
