Professional Development
The focus and justification for all professional development should be with some essential questions about practice problems, explicitly teaching and learning. All professional development goals should be effective action that addresses significant issues related to teacher effectiveness and student learning. It should aim to reduce discrepancies between the school or university's purposes and the district for students learning and their actual achievements.
Professional development should involve participants examining their practice to define for themselves a vision of what it means to be a teacher/instructor in a high-performance learning community and how they can contribute to the organization's continuous improvement processes.
Teaching skills can be accomplished by fostering more independent students, effective assessment techniques, content area training, and teaching skills for teachers in conjunction with teams/communications. Teaching skills to teachers/instructors is a monumental task. Many teachers/instructors have blinders; they cannot see beyond their classroom. I would design a workshop to incorporate new learning techniques with old pedagogical theories for senior and new staff members.
Teachers/instructors must be evaluated each year, which are outdated evaluation processes, and new evaluation tools must be formulated to assess current teachers' skills. A needs assessment is needed that evaluates all aspects of teaching, one that borrows from various disciplines and incorporates all to determine an effective teacher.
Training in my content area is essential to stay on top of current trends. However, I have noticed that workshops relevant to my field are not pertinent to improving my teaching. For example, many workshops emphasize the theory and clinical practice of the content area but do not cover classroom application. How can I be a better teacher by implementing these practices?
Teachers must embrace technology, pedagogical theories, and multiple disciplines to teach effectively in a technological world. The most manageable tasks are gathering all the subjects; The most challenging thing is disseminating information. Effective communication between staff members is the first step. I have found a lot of interaction between staff members and management. Effective communication techniques are one of the main goals for professional development.
Staff members should be encouraged to undertake independent studies where they have the opportunity to learn new tools. I am committed to learning unique aspects of teaching, social issues, and classroom practices. Therefore, I read the latest articles on classroom management, effective teachers, and teaching techniques. I can accomplish this using ERIC, ABOUT, and Google.
There are many resources available for online educators. I am completing my learning and instruction education in the doctoral program at the School of Education at the University at Buffalo. One of my ideas is to continue working with STEM in multicultural education.
